Cayenne PASM or air suspension? Identify the system before diagnosing ride height
PASM and air suspension describe different functions. Identify your Cayenne equipment and record ride-height symptoms before discussing repairs.
Published

PASM is not another name for air suspension. The distinction matters when a Cayenne owner reports a harsh ride, a height change or a suspension warning. Porsche's 2023 Cayenne material describes PASM with steel springs as well as an optional air-suspension arrangement. That example demonstrates why the exact equipment must be identified rather than inferred from a badge.
Separate damping from ride height
PASM concerns the control of damping. Air suspension also introduces air-spring equipment and height-related functions on applicable vehicles. A complaint about ride firmness is therefore not automatically evidence of an air leak, and a vehicle with PASM should not automatically receive an air-suspension quotation.
Confirm the generation, model year and installed suspension using reliable vehicle information. Current-model descriptions are not a parts list for every 2016-onward Cayenne.
Describe what changes and when
Park on a level surface where it is safe to observe the vehicle. Note whether the concern affects one corner, one axle or the whole car, and whether it appears after parking, during normal driving or after choosing a different mode. Record the exact warning text and any recent tyre, wheel or suspension work.
Do not repeatedly cycle height settings to prove a fault. Do not crawl beneath a vehicle supported only by its suspension; any underbody inspection belongs in an appropriately equipped work area.
Ask for findings before parts
A diagnostic assessment should establish the reported condition and identify the installed system before recommending further work. A separate mechanical inspection can then be scoped around physical findings. The enquiry should not presume that a compressor, damper or spring needs replacement.
Request an estimate that distinguishes the observed symptom, the evidence supporting the proposed repair and any unresolved checks. This is particularly valuable when a ride complaint might involve tyres or a recent change in vehicle setup rather than the component first suspected.
Discuss your vehicle
See the Porsche information page or send a model-specific enquiry. Confirm the proposed work and vehicle suitability before booking.
