Porsche N-marked tyres: what to check before replacing a set
Understand Porsche N markings and check tyre dimensions, axle pairing, condition and the vehicle specification before ordering replacements.
Published

The N marking identifies a tyre specification tested and approved by Porsche. It is a useful starting point when choosing replacements, but the marking alone does not confirm that a tyre fits your particular car. The complete specification still has to match the vehicle and wheel combination.
Read more than the brand name
Photograph the full sidewall markings on all four tyres while the car is safely parked. Record the dimensions, load and speed ratings, tyre model and N designation. Check the vehicle's approved information as well as the tyres currently fitted: a previous owner may have installed a different specification.
Some Porsche configurations use different front and rear sizes. Do not assume that four matching-looking tyres should all have the same dimensions, or that another Porsche owner's wheel setup applies to yours.
Consider the whole set
A replacement decision involves the remaining tyres as well as the damaged one. Ask how differences in specification, wear and condition affect the proposed pairing. An approval marking is not a substitute for checking cuts, damage, uneven wear or suitability for the exact vehicle. Nor does it establish the correct inflation pressure; use the vehicle's specified pressure information for its loading conditions.
Investigate the reason for uneven wear
Before treating repeated wear or vibration as simply a tyre purchase, explain when it occurs. Note whether it began after an impact, wheel change or earlier repair. A mechanical inspection can help define the condition-related questions, while diagnostic assessment may be appropriate where vehicle warnings or other symptoms accompany them. These are enquiries about scope, not an automatic recommendation to replace suspension parts.
What a quotation should identify
Ask for the exact tyre model and specification, the intended axle positions and the reason for any additional work. Have the workshop explain uncertainties before ordering. This gives you a checkable proposal rather than a promise that any tyre carrying an N mark will be correct.
Discuss your vehicle
See the Porsche information page or send a model-specific enquiry. Confirm the proposed work and vehicle suitability before booking.
