Taycan charging slowly? Separate AC settings from DC charging conditions
Separate Taycan charging-profile settings from station output, battery conditions and generation differences before requesting diagnosis.
Published

A slow charging session does not, by itself, prove a Taycan fault. First establish whether the car was connected to an AC charger or a DC rapid charger. These are different situations, and comparing their displayed power without that context can lead to the wrong conclusion.
Start with the charging mode
For applicable Taycan versions, Porsche describes charging profiles and timers that influence AC charging. Check the selected profile, target and departure settings against the instructions for your model. A scheduled or limited session should not be confused with the car unexpectedly failing to charge.
For DC charging, record the station used and its advertised capability, but do not treat that number as a guaranteed session result. Porsche identifies factors including the battery's charge level and temperature and the available charging infrastructure. Published headline figures for a newer Taycan must not be applied automatically to an earlier car.
Keep a short, comparable log
Useful details include:
- Model year and whether the connection was AC or DC.
- Battery percentage at connection and when the slowdown appeared.
- Station location or identifier and the session time.
- The exact on-screen message, with personal information removed.
- Whether the same concern repeats at a known compatible alternative charger.
Avoid changing several settings between observations; otherwise it becomes harder to understand what influenced the result. There is no need to run the battery unusually low merely to collect evidence.
When to request assessment
A persistent warning, interrupted charging or a repeatable problem deserves a model-specific diagnostic enquiry. Describe the observations rather than requesting a replacement battery or a software update as the assumed cure.
If an assessment identifies a conventional cooling or other mechanical concern, discuss a separate mechanical work scope. High-voltage testing or repair requires suitable capability and must be confirmed separately. Do not open charging equipment or high-voltage components, and follow the vehicle's instructions if it displays a safety warning.
Discuss your vehicle
See the Porsche information page or send a model-specific enquiry. Confirm the proposed work and vehicle suitability before booking.
