Bentley Mulliner paint repair: satin, metallic and pearlescent finishes

Identify a Bentley Mulliner finish and prior repairs before agreeing how a scratch, dent or colour mismatch will be assessed.

Mulliner gives Bentley owners a range of distinctive finishes, including choices described in Bentley material as satin, metallic and pearlescent. Those descriptions should influence the repair enquiry, but none is a complete diagnosis or a guarantee that the same method suits every finish.

Establish what is on the panel

Collect the original colour specification where available and ask whether the affected panel carries paint, protective film or another applied finish. A satin-looking surface in a photograph cannot establish the layer that has been damaged. Previous refinishing can also change what the repairer is assessing.

Provide the car's model and year along with the colour information. Do not choose a repair method solely from an image of another Bentley in a similar shade.

Describe the damage in context

Is the problem a scratch, chipped edge, dent or a visible difference between neighbouring panels? Photograph the complete panel and the surrounding area as well as the close-up. Unfiltered images in ordinary light are more useful than heavily edited pictures, but the final scope still depends on inspection.

Avoid testing a polishing compound on an unidentified satin finish simply to see whether a mark disappears. A change in sheen can itself become part of the repair problem.

Separate panel work from finishing

If the shape is damaged, discuss bodywork assessment separately from the painting proposal. Ask which surfaces are included, how existing colour or sheen differences will be documented, and what needs to be confirmed before materials are selected.

Metallic or pearlescent naming does not establish an exact repair formula. Nor does the Mulliner name justify a promise of perfect matching before the actual finish is inspected.

Agree how the result will be reviewed

Keep a written scope and photographs of the original condition. Discuss suitable viewing conditions at handover and obtain aftercare instructions for the repaired finish. If the finish or prior work cannot be identified confidently, that uncertainty should appear in the assessment rather than being hidden behind a generic paint quotation.
